Black Friday is approaching…
If you are a shopaholic like the author (me) of this blog, you are already scouring the internet for a preview of the ads. We’re dreaming about the sales, but having nightmares about the lines!
So… to help keep the shopping experience enjoyable (as it should ALWAYS be)… bring along some chick lit! It’s a great idea to have Sophie Kinsella, Candice Bushnell, or Lauren Weisberger in your back pocket
.
Listed below are some fashionable novels, some old and some new, to help you block out the tension that comes along with holiday shopping:

*Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood) is the most relate-able fictional character a fashionista could ask for. Nearly 10 years ago she defined the term ‘Shopaholic’ to its core, and now she’s out and about with her little one in ‘Mini Shopaholic’. If you’re not familiar with the infamous Shopaholic series (get back to planet earth quick!), Becky is the heroine of the series of six novels written by my favorite chick-lit author, Sophie Kinsella. The book was released back in September, if you are already a fan, I’m sure you grabbed it off the book shelf as soon as Barnes & Noble opened its doors that morning
.
*Also recommended: ‘Remember Me?’ & ‘Can You Keep a Secret?’

*’The Devil Wears Prada’ was obviously phenomenal… ‘Everyone Worth Knowing’ was mediocre (but fun to read)… Didn’t read ‘Chasing Harry Winston’ because the reviews were terrible… heard ‘Last Night at Chateau Marmont’ was pretty good, and can’t wait to pick it up
. When in doubt… just re-read ‘The Devil Wears Prada’… it’ll bring you back to the greatness that was lost in the film.

*This novel, Bergdorf Blondes, is hands down my all time favorite! The author, Plum Sykes, was a fashion writer for Vogue and a New York socialite before she became a bestselling novelist. This book was her debut novel and originally published in 2004. Though it’s now a little dated, and some of the name dropping doesn’t quite fit (Brad Pitt & Jen Aniston were still together then), the quirky and witty writing will suck you in, and you won’t be able to put it down.

*After experiencing the horror that was ‘Sex and the City II’… I needed to reassure myself that the original HBO series and wonderful writing of Candace Bushnell was still as great as I once thought… so I picked up ‘The Carrie Diaries’. It’s sort of SATC prequel about Carrie’s high school days. It’s not HBO quality, but it’s nice and it reminded me of why I was a Candace Bushnell fan.
Try imagining Sarah Jessica Parker during her Footloose days when you’re reading it
… it’s so fitting. And stay tuned because there is supposed to be another book to follow.
Happy reading… and VERY happy shopping!!!
Frockfully Yours,
Jackie
