Woops… or maybe she did it on purpose…

Taylor Swift showed up at the 2011 Peoples Choice Awards (looking fab) in the same pale peach J. Mendel dress that Natalie Portman wore on the cover of January’s Vogue. Maybe she (or her stylist) didn’t notice the mega-popular mag’s star on the cover, but if they did, can you blame her for wanting that beautiful ballerina-inspired piece? Just probably wasn’t a good idea to wear the same dress to a high profile event that was very recently featured on a high profile magazine… to each their own. However, both gals did look regal in it… Who do you think wore it best?

A fresh new year and a fresh new you. Considering going to the salon to get a Nicole Kidman red hair dye, so you can feel like you spiced up your look for 2011?

Most (99%) of us aren’t as brave as Ms. Gaga or singing diva Rhianna in the hair and make-up department (thank God), but still… we want a twist of something to update up our look that doesn’t involve chopping off 7 inches of our hair or a carrot-top coloring.

Try something in the make-up department… like violet eyeliner or emerald shadow.

  • MAC Cosmetics’ eye kohl (liner) in Prunella is a deep raisin-hued purple that is an easy transition from black and will boldly bring out green/brown eyes. It also has a little shimmer for extra pop. Use it with Clinique’s Colour Surge Eye Shadow Duo in Beach Plum which includes an illuminating champagne gold with a shimmering golden purple. The stunning combination has been a best seller at Clinique for years. Go extra heavy and add false eyelashes for a smokey-night-out-eye. Remeber that if you’re going heavy on the eye, stay light on the lips with pale pink, peach, or nude.

  • Another bold and brilliant option is to use Nars’ Eye Shadow Duo in Misfit. It includes an emerald teal and a very opposite shimmering ecru. If you’re brave, apply it as is, use MAC’s Eye Kohl liner in Tarnish (a blackened forest green), and finish with a deep red gloss to your lips. If you want subtlety, use a glimmering bronze/gold eye shadow like any combination from Urban Decay’s Naked Eye Shadow Palette (which is magically one of those palettes you use EVERY color out of!), line your upper lash line with an espresso brown or black liner, then use the emerald shadow from the Nars Misfit shadow duo to line your lower lash line. Add the ecru color to the inner corners of your eyes as a highlighter. Use a liner brush to created the perfect smudged look. The high-pigments in Nars’ eyeshadows were meant for lining.

  • One more fun eye make-up tip while I’m at it… run a q-tip of Vaseline (lip gloss works too) over your eye-liner to create an ultra-shiny and Olsen Twins-esque  smoky eye. It’s also a nifty way to turn your powder shadow into a cream shadow. Just apply it to your lids before your shadow.
