Burgundy is undoubtedly the color of the season. It’s made its way into everything from skinny jeans to lipstick, and we’re loving everything about this haute hue. We’ve spotted the deepest blood-red lips all over the blogosphere and magazines lately, so we decided to ask our resident beauty expert, Alaina, how we can incorporate it into our makeup repertoire without looking like zombie clowns…

Piling on this super-saturated lip color may be a little bit intimidating, so Alaina gave us three ways to wear it, from subtle to super-glam. Even better – it’s a great way to take your look from day to night, and who doesn’t love versatility?

Just trying to get your feet wet? Start off with a sheer red gloss and neutral eyes with a light coat of mascara.

Ready for the next step? Move on to a deeper mauve lipstick. Keep it matte or add a dab of clear gloss in the center for a bit of shine. Add a cat eye with black liquid liner and amp up your mascara.

Want to go for the glam? Pick out a deep chocolate-cherry red lipstick. This look might require some lip liner to get it looking just right. Keep your cat eye, but add some smoky shadow and an extra coat of mascara to rev it up.

Apply lipstick or gloss. Start with a sheer shade for day time and add deeper tones when the sun sets. Line your lids with a bold black cat eye using liquid liner. Keep your eyeshadow and mascara light for daytime so it doesn’t overpower. Shade your lids with smokey charcoal shadow to amp up your look for nighttime, and don’t be afraid to add a thicker coat of mascara for a super-dramatic look!

Through twelve years in business, Frock Candy has gone through many changes. We’ve opened new stores, launched our website, and gotten to know our customers on a whole new level through social media. We’ve been working on some new changes again, and we are just busting at the seams excited to share them with you!

At Frock Candy, we believe every girl deserves some good pampering every once in awhile, so we decided after twelve years it was about time we gave ourselves a good makeover! We’ve been working hard on a fresh new look, and we’re finally ready to reveal. Over the next few weeks, you may begin to notice some changes on our website, in stores, and throughout our social media. We’ll be releasing our new logo, and slowly but surely, giving our stores a slight facelift. But don’t worry – the fabulous fashions and great prices will definitely stay the same. We will continue to bring you the most on-trend items at realistic and affordable prices in stores and online, just with a fresh new look to match!

So what’s next for Frock Candy? If you haven’t already heard, Shreveport, LA, we’re coming for ya! We will be opening this fall in the Shoppes at Bellemead, a wonderful development featuring outdoor shopping, dining and beautiful park-like surroundings, all conveniently located. The best part about the new store? It will feature all of the changes we’ve been working on from day one! Recipes That Frock: Three-Ingredient Pumpkin Muffins

For me, fall means one thing: pumpkin everything! Even though the weather is still warm here, I’m already thinking about cozy scarves and pumpkin spice lattes. We have been picking out our favorite fall recipes on Pinterest this week, and I just couldn’t take it anymore, so I decided to whip up some quick pumpkin muffins. I love this recipe because it couldn’t be any easier – three ingredients, four steps, and you’re done! Not to mention, it could be easily adapted to whatever you’re craving. Sometimes I’ll top them off with some cream cheese frosting, and other times I’ll mix in nuts and dried fruit for a yummy breakfast option. Such a good recipe to keep in your arsenal! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • One box of cake mix (spice cake or yellow cake)
  • One can of pumpkin (real pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix!)
  • One small container of greek yogurt, plain or vanilla flavored

Can it really be that easy? Yup, that’s it! Now just four steps and you’re done…

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and prepare your muffin tin by either adding cupcake liners or greasing your pan. Add all of your ingredients into your mixing bowl. If you want to add any mix-ins like nuts, chocolate chips, or fruit, now’s the time!
  2. Mix ingredients with a hand mixer until well blended.
  3. Pour ingredients into muffin tin, about 2/3 full so they don’t overflow (although they won’t grow as much as traditional muffins).
  4. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. If you’re going to frost them, let them cool completely first. Enjoy!
