Saturday night I had the rare opportunity of being in the company of my two best friends (ah, the result of growing up and being an adult). Sooooo… we decided to swing by Groovin’ on the Grounds at the LSU parade grounds and take in some much needed entertainment. The concert line up featured One Republic (YAY!), Jay Sean, and a new country music duet - Steel Magnolia.
Here are some lovely photos from the event courtesy of Darrell Rhodesmiller:

I also had a chance to catch-up with Jared Morvant – keyboardist for Steel Magnolia (originally from Louisiana). Steel Magnolia is an up-and-coming country music duo (vocal talents of Meghan Linsey & Joshua Scott Jones) who, since winning CMT’s ‘Can You Duet’, has been nominated for two Academy of Country Music Awards and two CMT Music Awards. Listen to their hit music here.
But first, check out this quick interview with Jared:

1. What’s the BEST part about touring?
For me, this has been a life-long dream. Music has been in my life since I was a young boy and I have always dreamt of having a career doing what I love. So now, getting to travel the country/world playing music is pretty surreal. Within my first two weeks of being with Steel Magnolia, we performed at the Grand Ole Opry and David Letterman – two things that have so much history behind them! Sometimes I believe I have the world’s best job LOL. Getting to meet all kinds of new faces and make friends around the country is pretty amazing!
2. What’s the worst part about touring?
Being away from home for any period of time is very hard. Having a wife and son back home waiting for at least a phone call everyday can be disheartening after a while. There are 12 of us on a bus, 11 guys and one girl (Meghan) so at times… you can imagine… well all I’ll say is ‘poor Meg’ LOL.
3. Do you guys behave yourself on the road - honestly?
Ha Ha, such a loaded question! But yes, as far as this band goes, everyone is VERY focused on their careers in the industry so there is NO time for misbehaving. We all get along great and enjoy each other’s company and there’s extra accountability as well.
4. Tell me a crazy fan story.
As for this question, I’m the new guy of the band – so I don’t have any crazy fan stories (which is probably a good thing LOL). Ask me again next time and maybe I’ll have something for you
.
5. What do you do when you’re not traveling? Any other hobbies?
I just relocated my family to Nashville a few weeks ago, so when I’m home I’m either doing yard work, taking bike rides with my wife and son, exploring the new city, checking out restaurants, trying to network and find more music opportunities. My newest hobby – I just discovered – is playing Disc Golf. Being from the south, either its not a big sport there OR I’ve just been out of the loop LOL! It has helped me realize just how out of shape I am though – haha! If you have never played you should definitely try it out.
Frockfully Yours,
Jackie
