Frock Rockin’ Bloggers

Meet up and coming style blogger, Julia, of Gal Meets Glam! She’s a student, dancer, fiancé, blogger, and Emma Watson look-a-like! Check out our interview with the oh-so-stylish Cali girl and find out how she juggles her many roles in life, why she started her blog, what she feels most beautiful in, and so much more!

  1. What was the inspiration behind starting your blog, Gal Meets Glam?

Well, it’s funny because before I started my blog I had never looked at a blog before. I was constantly online shopping and finding the greatest deals and shops online and wanted to create a place where I could share all of my favorite “finds”. I looked into creating a website and that’s how I discovered blogging! From there, I realized that I wanted to share my personal style and beauty tips and that’s how my blog became how it is today.

2. Describe your style in three words or less if possible.

Feminine, colorful, classic

3. How do you juggle your roles as student, dancer, fiancé, and blogger?

Keeping very organized! I guess I am one of those people that love to constantly be doing things. Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed, but then I remind myself how blessed I am to have the opportunity to do all of these things. School of course comes first, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I can’t wait to graduate, but I know once it’s over I’ll miss it. So I am just trying to enjoy everything I have right now.

4. Are there any blogs you follow? Do you have a favorite?

Oh yes! I absolutely love looking at other blogs. Of course I follow a handful of girls daily, but my favorite sources for inspiration are street style blogs like Street Peeper, The Sartorialist, Jak and Jil, and Stockholm Street Style.

5. Do trends have an impact on how you dress? If not, who or what inspires your style?

I would be lying if I say that I don’t like trends. There are many trends that I incorporate into my style, but there are also many that I would never try! It’s fun to try new trends and mix them with your flare to create a new look that is more “you”. Many things inspire my style including color, other bloggers, amazing designers, patterns and street style.

6. Finish this phrase. I feel most beautiful in _______.

A feminine dress

7. If you could only keep one pair of shoes in your closet till the end of summer, what would it be?

I just bought a pair of black Proenza Schouler sandals that I know will be worn countless times this summer.

8. What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

Mascara! I am obsessed with mascara. I use CoverGirl lash perfection and I swear it’s the best one on the market.

9. Finish this phrase. You can’t go wrong wearing _______.

A beautiful blouse and jeans!

10. If there were a movie being made about your life, which actress would play you?

Emma Watson. I get told constantly that she is my twin.

P.S. – Julia is in the running for Refinery 29′s Next Big Style Blogger. Show her some love by voting here. She’s definitely got our vote!

Meet Steffy of the life and style blog, Steffy’s Pros & Cons. You’ll fall in love with her quirky-girly style (and find unique outfit inspiration)! Get to know her a little bit through our interview.

1. What was the inspiration behind starting your blog, Steffys Pros & Cons?

I was living in Nicaragua in 2010 and I was really bored so I would read blogs like Keiko Lynn and Eat Sleep Wear religiously just to pass the time. When I moved back to the US I just knew I had to start my own, and so Steffys Pros and Cons was born :-) .

2. Do you have any other hobbies or passions besides blogging?

I love to run… it helps me to deal with stress. Also, I am really into music. Aside from 1960’s music, which is my favorite {a love inherited from my dad} I really love to find new music that is up and coming.

3. Are there any blogs you follow? Do you have a favorite?

Oh I follow way too many blogs, and I probably always will. It just helps to keep me inspired. A quick list of favorites are: Flashes of Style (and Bonnie seems like such a sweetheart!), Kertiii, Lost in the Haze, Jen Loves Kev and the Calivintage Tumblr always keeps me inspired. Also, I just found blorange dice, and it has quickly become a favorite.

4. Who or what inspires your style?

I am extremely inspired by holidays. I know that might sound absolutely silly, but growing up I always defined my years by whichever holiday was next. Maybe it is because I live in Florida where there are no seasons, so I need something to help me to acknowledge the passing of time. Anyway… if it is Halloween I lean toward oranges, Christmas leads me to greens and reds, Valentine’s Day to pinks, etc. Aside from that, the 60’s always inspired me… pictures, music, anything really.

5. Describe your style in three words or less (if possible).

Vintage inspired, girly, quirky.

6. What’s one item you are lusting after for spring?

A new satchel! I have been on the hunt forever for one.

7. If your personality were a dress, what would it look like? Would it even be a dress?

I would be a dress with giant polka dots and a lovely collar!

8. If you could only keep one pair of shoes in your closet till the end of summer, what would it be?

Even though they may not be summer appropriate I would keep my pointy vintage black boots. I wear them almost every day.

9. What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

My bright red Covergirl lipstick!

10. If your friends had to label you with one word, what would they choose?

Weird. Hehe.

Head on over to Steffy’s blog and check out her vintage store, Tea & Tulips, while you’re there :-) .

Frockfully Yours,

Jackie

Meet southern Louisiana native Juley of the life and style blog, Swank Heights!

She is a fashionably fabulous former elementary school teacher who now focuses her time on the growth and rebuilding of the city of New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina.

Get to know her a little bit through our interview and see for yourself why we are so smitten with her blog!

What was your inspiration behind starting your blog, Swank Heights?

When I started blogging in 2008 there weren’t many bloggers from the south so I wanted to introduce readers to New Orleans through my eyes. Everything about New Orleans has been inspiration for my blog – from the architecture to the food.

Do you have any other hobbies or passions besides blogging?

My biggest passion is probably trying to make my simple life twinkle in different ways, whether it be through random dishes or exploring my environment. I am a big supporter of stimulating the local economy so you’ll often hear me singing praises for local businesses, start-ups, and non-profits. I am currently working on my own entrepreneurial ventures.

Are there any blogs you follow? Do you have a favorite?

Absolutely! My favorites are Vanillascented, Cupcakes and Cashmere, Karla’s Closet, and 9 to 5 Chic.

Who or what inspires your style?

I often pull styling inspiration from designers with classic aesthetics, magazines, and of course other bloggers!

What’s one item you are lusting after for fall/winter 2011?

If I had the budget I’d really like to invest in a pair of black patent leather pointy toe Prada or Brian Atwood pumps. Nothing wrong with wishful thinking right?

If your personality was a dress, what would it look like? Would it even be a dress?

It would definitely be a dress! I recently wore a beautiful ASOS dress to an event and I think it perfectly matched my personality. Fun, whimsical, daring and not so serious!

If you could only keep one pair of shoes in your closet till spring, what would it be?

My new Zara glitter heels are so fun and perfect for both winter and spring.

What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

The Clarisonic is KING and helped stop a small spurt of adult acne.

If your friends had to label you with one word, what would they choose?

Doer.

Meet Rachel of Studio Swag – a fabulous style-setter who blogs about fashion, life, and architecture. A recent graduate, Rachel is a practicing architect at Trahan Architects here in Baton Rouge. Check out her interview below to find out what she’s coveting for fall, where she seeks inspiration, and how she came up with that über-cool blog title.

1. What was the inspiration behind starting your blog, Studio Swag?

I’ve always followed other fashion blogs for years and thought, why not join in on the fun?  Being an architect/fashion enthusiast, I had yet to see a blog exclusive to the comparison of fashion and architecture, which is originally how my blog started out.  It still has that spirit for sure, but now it has morphed into a creative/lifestyle blog as well. In the school of architecture, a “studio” is a place of creativity, collaboration, and education – so I knew I wanted my blog to have the same identity – so that is where the name is derived.

2. Do you have any other hobbies or passions besides blogging?

Aside from blogging, I love photography, sketching, painting, dancing, reading, gardening, cooking… Lately, I have been really interested in pattern making and fashion design – and hope to put some creations on my blog one day – so stay tuned!

3. Are there any blogs you follow? Do you have a favorite?

Oh my, so many!  My daily reads are Late Afternoon, Karla’s Closet, Zarna’s Runway, Swank Heights, and Sea of Shoes. Just to name a few.

4. Who or what inspires your style?

Architecture without a doubt.  The way I look at color, pattern, proportion, lines, shapes, structure… everything is directly influenced with me being a designer.

5. Describe your style in three words or less (if possible).

Strong. Modern. Confident.

6. What’s one item you are lusting after for fall/winter?

Like every winter, a great chunky boot.  Since I’m lusting, Alexander Wang’s Luca boot to be exact.

7. If your personality was a dress, what would it look like? Would it even be a dress?

Absolutely a dress!  Hmmm… maybe an evening dress.  It would be a cool mix of masculine and feminine – I don’t think anything is sexier – with maybe a structured top and a long flowy bottom.  I’d imagine it to have a strong, solid color like a rich red or a deep magenta, perhaps.

8. If you could only keep one pair of shoes in your closet till spring, what would it be?

My nude leather platform pumps are seasonless and trend-proof!

9. What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

Lotion!  I have seriously tried every brand, and the absolute best is Jergen’s.  My skin will cry without it!

10. If your friends had to label you with one word, what would they choose?

Loyal.  Family and friends mean everything to me – I am as loyal as they come.  :)

Meet Veronika from the life and style blog, Girl & Closet. Her style is a little vintage, a little adventurous, and very much lady-like. She lives in Canada (in a nature rich town) with her husband, cat and dog. And she just had a birthday (jump on over to her blog to send her a belated birthday wish :-) ). I won’t spoil the rest – read on for more!

What was your inspiration behind starting your blog, Girl & Closet?

I had just spent a year working from home on my own business, which meant I was living in a pair of tights, a tank and a cardy. I was desperately needing more fashion in my life, a reason to get dressed, and found myself craving a sense of fun & adventure -voila, a blog was born! I also love photography and the blog became a wonderful way to channel my creativity.

Do you have any other hobbies or passions besides blogging?

Truthfully, I spend most of my time blogging; it seems to encompass all of my passions. I absolutely love doing web design, photography, fashion styling and I really enjoy writing & connecting with my readers. But if I do decide to pull myself away from fashion blogging, then the hubs and I are usually doing something relaxing together. We live in a nature rich community, so we love to take our pooch for hikes, explore local areas, or walk along the beach and head to our favourite local restaurant. We love our downtime!

Do you have any blogs that you follow regularly? Do you have a favorite?

Yes! I absolutely adore fashion blogs and I have so many that I love. It’s great to see what other fashion-minded gals are wearing and how they are choosing to wear it. I diligently follow Selective Potential, The Daybook, M Loves M, Jen Loves Kev, Keiko Lynn and so many more. I think blogs have become so popular over the last few years because they are relatable & attainable. And best of all, it’s such a wonderful and supportive community. I’m hooked!!

What has been your favorite summer trend? What trends are you looking forward to for fall/winter 2011?

I have been obsessed with floral print dresses, woven fedoras, wedges, and I can never say “no” to a cute pair of shorts. As for the upcoming season?! I adore fall. It’s my favourite season for fashion …the textures, layers and gorgeous fabrics leave me spell bound. I’m already craving long cable knit cardy’s, patterned tights, flowy pleated skirts, and vintage inspired pea coats. Gosh, I can’t wait!

Who or what inspires your style?

I seem to find inspiration everywhere! I’m blessed to have some amazingly fashionable girlfriends in my life, and I love other style bloggers. I also have a style crush on Liv Tyler, Zooey Deschanel, and Maggie Gyllenhall -adore those girls!!

Describe your style in three words or less (if possible).

Vintage inspired, sometimes quirky, and definitely feminine.

If your personality was a dress, what would it look like? Would it even be a dress?

Yes, I would be a dress! As for the look?! Perhaps a luxurious satin… I’m seeing something floral, knee length, with bits of sparkly neon tulle peeking out, and a sweetheart neckline. I would also add an edgy leather jacket to the mix, and a fabulous pair of platforms -of course!

Do you prefer to shop at trendy boutiques or larger department stores and malls?

It’s a real mix for me. I seem to shop at both. I absolutely love visiting/stalking my local H&M a few times a month, and I have a few local boutiques that I frequent. I’m also an avid online shopper and can’t seem to get enough… I love that I can find unique & affordable pieces, plus I can do it all from the comfort of my own home.

What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

I’m obsessed with my Maybelline Volum’ Express Falsies Mascara. It’s absolutely amazing… it mimics the look of fake eyelashes and it’s safe to say I’m hooked! I also can’t live without my Benefit lip balm -it’s amazing!! Haha, sorry that’s two -oops.

If your friends had to label you with one word, what would they choose?

Loyal. I’m always there for my friends, family, and well just about anyone. It’s important to have an open heart and give your support, whenever you can.

Don’t forget to check out Veronika’s blog! Along with inspiring outfit posts, she always gives remix options – my favorite part!

Ramsey of the life and style blog, Love Ramsey, mixes up classic styles to create her own – all on a student budget. She even shows you how to get a $100 wardrobe! Wow!… we just had to feature her as a Frock Rockin’ Blogger. Ramsey shares with you her style inspiration, passion for photography, and some of her favorite trends. Don’t forget to check the end of the post for her Frock Candy picks and her blog of course! You’ll find her writing is just as awesome as her sense of fashion.

1. What was your inspiration behind starting your blog, Love, Ramsey?

I like getting dressed. Most days. Ok, well if I didn’t have to, I definitely wouldn’t, but that whole bit is rather socially unacceptable, so we’ll just leave it at I like getting dressed and I blog to give and gain inspiration. And tell funny stories. Because those are fun.

2. Do you have any other hobbies or passions besides blogging?

Yes. Yes, yes, yes. I {heart} photography and it is both a hobby and a passion.

3. Do you have any blogs that you follow regularly? Do you have a favorite?

Geeze Louise. I follow an embarrassing number of daily reads. Mostly fashion and decorating/design. My favorites are constantly rotating and I have quite the affection in finding newbies!

4. What has been your favorite summer trend? What trends are you looking forward to for fall/winter 2011?

I love the colors of summer. And the fabulous throw back heels that are everywhere right now. For fall and winter, my favorite trend would be 70’s flare pants. Actually pants of any sort would be incredible right now, as I am sweating my rear off in this Florida heat and pants symbolize fallness. Oh, love and excitement.

5. Who or what inspires your style?

I love the oldies. The classic ladies of Hollywood are always jolly for a good dose of inspiration. Also? Blogs. Of course. I love all of you little dollies and look forward to seeing your smiling bloggy pictures each day!

6. Describe your style in three words or less (if possible).

Classic with flair.

7. If your personality was a dress, what would it look like? Would it even be a dress?

It would certainly be a dress. It would be a super jazzy color like bright coral but with a classic style and a fluffy little bottom. What a fun question is that!

8. Do you prefer to shop at trendy boutiques or larger department stores and malls?

Both. If I were rich (which I’m not) I would probably shop exclusively at boutiques filled with tons of delightful and unique pieces to dress myself in every day. Unfortunately, I’m operating my closet on a poor little college budget and I have to get my thrills at the mall. But I do believe with the perfect mix of ingenuity and style, you can have high-end clothes on a broke-end budget.

9. What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

I would have to say a tossup between mascara and Burt’s Bees. If I leave home without either, I feed completely naked. Which is something I like to restrict to home only. Thankyaverymuch.

10. If your friends had to label you with one word, what would they choose?

I got two answers to this. 1. Creative. 2. Artsy-Fartsy. Both mean the same thing, only the second with a bit more liberalism.
Thank ya so much Frock Candy for rocking my socks!

(The genetically blessed) Katie of the life & style blog – Running on Happiness – may be new to the blogging community, but her gorgeous photography and well written blog say otherwise (you’d never know she just got her camera this past Christmas!). She’s definitely one to watch! Jump on over to her blog to see for yourself :-) .

But first, check out her interview below.

Plus, shop Katie’s fabulous Frock Candy picks at the end of the post!

What was your inspiration behind starting your blog, Running on Happiness?

At the end of 2010, I was introduced to the blogging world via Facebook and was incredibly inspired by all the blogs I read, from cooking, home design, and to personal style.  I couldn’t help but feel inspired by these women and the positivity and beauty they captured on a daily basis.  My husband bought me a DSLR camera for Christmas and I thought what better way to start 2011 off by channeling my own positivity and documenting life with a blog of my own!

Do you have any other hobbies or passions besides blogging?

Blogging is definitely my biggest hobby.  Going hand in hand with that is my passion for photography.  I love capturing people, moments and beauty.  I hope to pursue photography professionally in the future.

Do you have any blogs you follow regularly? Do you have a favorite?

I follow tons of blogs.  But to name a few of my favorites – I love Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere.  She is a modern day Martha Stewart (but much hotter of course).  I also love Keiko Lynn.  She is just flawlessly beautiful and has an amazing eye for effortless and romantic style.  My absolute favorite blogger is Sydney from The Daybook.  I just love her.  She definitely inspires me.

What are your favorite spring/summer 2011 trends?

My favorite spring trend is wide leg jeans.  I’ve always loved the fashion from the ’70s so I am happy to see it coming back into style.  I’m also loving wood platform shoes.  Hot!

Who or what inspires your style?

So many things inspire me.  In fact, I live every day to feel inspired by something.  Blogs would be the biggest contributor to my style journey.  I learn so much from them on a daily basis.  Having my own personal style blog also inspires me to push my own boundaries and become more aware of new and exciting styles and trends.  I’m also inspired by less tangible things such as my mood, where I may be going, bright colors, magazines, celebrities such as Rachel Bilson and my friends.

Describe your style in three words or less (if possible).

If I had to describe my style in three words or less, it would be: A work in progress.  Ok that’s four!

If your personality was a dress… what would it look like… would it even be a dress?

If my personality were a dress, it would be a bold bright color that is muted by the shape’s simplicity.  It would be cool yet comfortable, feminine yet effortless.  The dress would be easy going enough to wear with a pair of sandals or dressed up to wear with heels.  I would hope to be the kind of dress that people would love to wear because it makes them feel good and brings out their best assets.

Do you prefer to shop at trendy boutiques or larger department stores and malls?

I shop at trendy boutiques and the big stores, like H&M.  I feel boutiques provide you with items that are more unique to personal style, however, you can’t beat the affordability and trendy fashion of those major retail lines.  And right now, my style is very much determined by my check book!

What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

One beauty item I cannot live without are my clip-in hair extensions.  I rarely leave the house without them!

If your friends had to label you with one word… what would they choose?

I discussed this question with my BFF Anne, so I’ll go with her answer: Radiant.

Mara (MAR-ah) of the life and style blog, M Loves M, is one of those effortlessly-put-together-girl-next-door-types that you just want to make your best friend :-) . I love how she adds pops of red in her looks, whether it is a bold lipstick, bag, or blazer. Check out her adorable blog (M Loves M) and read about her classic & feminine style, fabulous wedding plans, yummy recipes, and other adventures with her fiancée in sunny Los Angeles. But first, get to know her a little bit through our interview.

What was your inspiration behind starting your blog, M Loves M?

I started my blog as a way to keep in contact with Matthew (my then boyfriend, now fiancé) while we were in a long distance relationship. He moved down to LA a few months later though and the blog evolved into a space to document my interest in personal style, as well as other things.

Do you have any other hobbies or passions besides blogging?

I love to go hiking with my dog Ginger. She’s a great workout buddy! I love to shop, of course, and I love finding treasures at flea markets or estate sales. I also love to bake! There’s something about baking a fresh batch of chocolate chip cookies that totally cheers me up!  I have a theory that chocolate can fix any bad day!

You live in L.A. What’s the best part about living there?

So much! I grew up in LA, went away for school, and now I’m back! Being close to my family is a huge plus. I also love the weather and being near the water. I really love spending as much time as I can outdoors. Another thing I love about LA are all the great restaurants. Matthew and I love finding great, new places for our date nights.

What are your favorite spring/summer 2011 trends?

I LOVE the influence of bright coral colors! They always make me so happy so I’m glad to see other people embracing the trend. Wide leg trouser pants are another thing I am really excited about! I’m kind of relieved to see the skinny leg jeans go away for awhile. They really weren’t the most comfortable! Also, I’m excited for round sunnies and big floppy hats. I’m already dreaming of lazy beach days!

Who or what inspires your style?

I’ve always been really interested in interior design, and that often inspires my style. I can’t wiat to move into my apartment with Matthew so I can really start decorating. I love seeing beautiful rooms with different colors and textures. I’ll often see a living room and think “Wow I could make that into an outfit” haha sounds weird but it’s true! I’m also constantly inspired by the other incredible bloggers out there.  They’re so stylish and creative and you can always see their personality in their outfits.

Describe your style in three words or less (if possible).

Feminine, classic, romantic

If your personality was a dress… what would it look like… would it even be a dress?

Yes, It would definitely be a dress! I’m thinking it would be a bright color since I’m always pretty happy (maybe orange) and there would need to be some fun, whimsical component, like ruffles, a bow, or polka dots!

Do you prefer to shop at trendy boutiques or larger department stores and malls?

If I had more money I might shop at the trendy boutiques but I don’t know if I could ever justify spending so much on clothes, despite my love for them. I do enjoy getting inspiration from boutiques and then seeing if I can find the look cheaper somewhere else. I hate sacrificing quality though so I love looking at thrift stores for something previously loved.  Sometimes it can end up being the least expensive AND the most long-lasting.

What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

I would say powder because my skin color can look somewhat uneven sometimes. I typically wear mascara but sometimes I’ll do without it. Moisturizer and a little powder are always a must for me, though.

If your friends had to label you with one word… what would they choose?

I think they’d say I’m sweet. I love my friends and family so much and I’d do anything to help them out or make their day a little better.

Fashion-lover and style blogger, Lauren Brimley of Busy Bee Lauren, blogs about her adventures with her husband, friends, and family, her creative and colorful personal style, and everything in between (including the Beatles… she had me at John Lennon)! Get to know this self-proclaimed book-worm with Barbie doll hair that loves to go thrifting and cook without recipes! You’ll quickly see why we find her so ‘awesomespice’ (plus find out the meaning behind it)!

What was your inspiration behind starting your blog, Busy Bee Lauren?

It was probably one of the most uninspiring moments of my life. It was back in 2006, when “blog” was a word that was closely followed by “a whaaaa?” I decided to start one because I was bored, and figured it would be something I would quit after a while anyway. It soon became an avenue for me to document my crazy stories.

Do you have any other hobbies besides blogging?

Oh yes! I love to read! I am a major book worm. I also love to cook without recipes. I paint and draw, and of course take lots of photos. And I love to go thrifting. It’s a game for me, and a way to relax when I have had a stressful week.

What’s the story behind ‘awesomespice’?

My sister-in-law used to say “lamespice” as a play off the Spice Girls. Meaning, if someone is being really lame, you could use “lamespice” to describe them at that moment. Since she and I are best friends, it rubbed off on me, and I started saying “lamespice” in blog posts. It slowly evolved to me adding “spice” to the end of words, but “awesomespice” is probably the most loved of the “spice” words on the blog.

What are your favorite spring 2011 trends?

I am loving all of the florals! I have always loved floral, so it’s exciting to see it so prominent. But I must admit, I am not one to follow trends, mostly out of necessity. My way of saving money is by not buying anything new. All of 2010 I didn’t buy ANYTHING new…it was all thrifted or ebay/etsy vintage finds. It saved a lot!

Lauren wearing our Bouquet of Roses Dress

Do you have a personal style? If so, choose 1-3 words that describe it best.

Yes, I think I do, though I don’t always stick to a certain style within my personal style…if that makes sense. Vintage, Eclectic and Bohemian.

Who or what inspires your style?

I love the 70′s. I like to search on tumblr for photos from the 70′s and photos of hippies from that time. So much inspiration!

Lauren in the coolest Beatles tee ever!

If your personality was a dress… what would it look like?

Anything with polka dots! I love polka dots :)

Do you prefer to shop at trendy boutiques or larger department stores and malls?

Neither! I totally hang out at the thrift store! It’s the very best place to find great vintage. But, I must say, I do love to shop online. Online shopping used to be a scary thing for me, because I was worried about sizing. But as long as you keep an updated list of your measurements, and follow the sizing guides, you are usually good to go!

What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

My Almay “Bringing out the Green” eyeliner in “Raisin Quartz”. I look ridiculous without eyeliner, and that kind is my very favorite.

If your friends had to describe you in one word, what would it be?

I would think they would probably say “Funny” :)

Style blogger and graphic designer, Tieka (Tee-kuh) Dierolf of SelectivePotential.com, is a trend-setting, well-versed, little lady who has been featured in Who What Wear, Glamour.com, and N.E.E.T. magazine (to name a few). Her personal style is grunge gal meets floralista (I chose the term floralista because it perfectly represents her seasonal on trend style that is regularly mixed with her love of floral prints). Get to know her through our interview (and be jealous of her adorable effortless looking hair) to find out for yourself why she is a blogger that rocks!

What was your inspiration behind starting your blog, Selective Potential?

When I started my blog, I had just lost 35 pounds and was so inspired to try new things with my style, plus I needed to purchase a whole new wardrobe! I felt like I could do anything with style and get away with it. So I started looking on the internet for ways on how to learn more about personal style, came across an article on fashion bloggers and was so inspired to start my own! Ever since that day, I’ve been on this amazing journey.

Do you have any other hobbies or passions besides blogging?

I’m a graphic designer in my day job, so I’m always working on blog designs or some sort of design when I’m home. I swear I have Photoshop or Illustrator open every single day of my life! I also play in a band with my husband, Brett. I play guitar and sing and it’s so much fun. Other than that, I just love to ride around on my scooter and go to the movies with Brett!

You live in a small beach town in Michigan, is that as lovely and peaceful as it sounds?

Absolutely. The scenery here is beautiful, the people are small-town and sokind and everything is so quaint and friendly. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else at this point. Plus, we have so much to do in the area and we’re only a quick 3-hour trip to Chicago. We live a quick five-minute scoot trip from the beach and it’s just wonderful. I love getting home at night and hearing the lake and the beach scent our town always has, even in winter.

What are your favorite spring/summer 2011 trends?

I’m definitely looking forward to lots of unique prints and patterns (airplanes, cats, birds), bright colors, coral lipstick, floral shorts, chunky heels, wood-elements, floppy hats. Gosh, just listing that out is making me so excited!

Who or what inspires your style?

I’m always mostly inspired by other personal style bloggers, especially the girls in the Delightful Dozen. I definitely look to real girls for inspiration. I also get a lot of style inspiration from Who What Wear.

Describe your style in three words or less (if possible).

Feminine, grungy and seasonal.

If your personality was a dress… what would it look like?

It would most likely be a sleeved floral dress, with earthy or grungy colors! All of my readers know me by floral dresses!

Do you prefer to shop at trendy boutiques or larger department stores and malls?

Ooh, that totally depends. I feel like I love shopping trendy boutiques online – online versions of that type of shopping experience. But in real life shopping, I’m definitely all about department stores and malls.

What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

I couldn’t live without my Maybelline Liquid Line Stiletto. It defines my style, almost, and it is the most important part of my makeup routine! Plus, it’s so easy to put on… I’d die if they ever discontinued it!

If your friends had to label you with one word… what would they choose?

Idealistic. I get that all the time. But it’s so true. I’m such an idealistic person… with everything I do. I mean that ties in with everything else in my life. Or the other word might be insane. I’m just so busy all the time and all over the place. Haha!

Neira Pekmez of missneira.com is a fashion blogger and student with an awesome sense of style and passion for illustration and writing (among many things) and it shows on her website. Her versatile blog covers everything from her personal style to makeup and celebrity high fashion.

Get to know this fabulous fashionista a little bit through our interview with her!

Check out Neira’s Frock Candy picks at the end of the post.

FC: What was your inspiration behind starting your blog, missneira.com?

MN: I really wanted to start a blog where I could feature a lot of local Boston talent in fashion, design and jewelry while talking about my own favorite things like lingerie and personal style. I didn’t want a blog where I just post photos of myself, I wanted to intrigue readers by posting current trends, style and fashion news that comes from a personal voice.

FC: Do you have any other hobbies besides blogging?

MN: I love drawing! Fashion illustration has always been so amazing to me.

FC: You’re a fashion student, what are your plans/goals/dreams after graduation?

MN: There are so many things I want to do! I would like to go to grad school for marketing and advertising and hopefully end up somewhere where I can use marketing, social media, public relations in fashion of course! Oh and I also want to design too!

FC: What are your favorite spring 2011 trends?

MN: The 70s glam! I am so excited the inspiration is back. The olive and rust colors mixed with florals is beautiful! Of course the wide brimmed hat is a favorite as well.

FC: Do you have a personal style? If so, who or what inspires it?

MN: I really get inspired by the quote “I dress for the imageNot for myself, not for the public, not for fashion, not for men.” (Marlene Dietrich) Vintage and retro styles always inspire me, the femininity and sex appeal… I love it!

FC: If your personality was a dress… what would it look like?

MN: A long sleeved mini dress (preferably in a black or red) with lots of lace!

FC: Do you prefer to shop at trendy boutiques or larger department stores and malls?

MN: I prefer to shop at boutiques. I really like getting pieces I know not many people will have it, plus I really like supporting smaller businesses.

FC: You live in Boston, what’s the fashion scene like there? Attended any noteworthy events lately?

MN: I don’t want to put down Boston, but it’s definitely not like New York City! The fashion scene has gotten better but it’s still so conservative! The past few years a lot of great designers have emerged like Sam Mendoza, Sara Marhamo and so many others and I am really proud of that!

FC: What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

MN: Burt’s Bees chap stick! I go through 5 a month!

FC: If your friends had to describe you in one word, what would it be?

MN: Determined
