We are all gearing up for our holiday shopping this week. I’m sure I’m not the only one whose list seems to get bigger every year. It’s now more important than ever that we stick to a budget. Christmas time is usually a great for time for the economy but not so great for our pocket books. What comes around goes around right??? … sometimes.

So, forget all the price tag mumbo jumbo and remember (excuse my cliché-ness) what the season is all about… GIVING. It’s not about how much you spend… really. Trust me on that one. I struggled every year over what to get my Dad for Christmas. It’s hard to buy something for a man who you know has everything he wants or could easily go get it himself. So, two years ago my husband decides to give him an army issued sleeping bag… seriously. And wouldn’t you know… my Dad (an avid sportsman who slept outdoors many a nights in below 30 weather) was tickled to death over it. That just goes to show that it really is the thought that matters most. My husband knew deep down how much he needed and would appreciate that gift.

I doubt you find yourself in my exact scenario… but here’s a suggestion for the fashionable follower…

• Make the card you put a gift card in. Gift cards aren’t thoughtless. They are fabulous, in my opinion, and I don’t know how my husband hasn’t gotten the hint yet. If you know someone who loves to shop, then they LOVE gift cards! It’s a no brainer! Just throw out the digitally printed pouch it comes in, pull out some scrapbook paper and accessories and get creative. You could even write a little sentiment that means something between you and your gift receiver. If you are on a tight budget… we have gift cards as low as $5 here at Frock Candy. So, in the case of the gift card… it’s what’s on the outside that counts .
